Last night was a quite the learning lesson for my dear daughter... you don't have to be at the racetrack to have a tough race day.
When I got home last night Kaitlyn was sitting out front crying. She told me she didn't get to race this weekend because of her engine. I went into the garage and one look at Rick and I knew it was bad. The motor was in a million pieces on the bench (ok that is an exaggeration since I think the entire motor is maybe 2o pieces) and he was wiping down one of the pieces. He looked so upset. When he started Kaity's motor up to break it in a piece had fallen out and took out the piston and the cylinder. We have pistons but no cylinders. He called EVERYONE to see if he could find out and no luck. Seth's parents offered us a motor to borrow, which was so generous!, but Rick decided that since it was a non-points race it would probably be best to just not run it.
Kaitlyn came out the garage and started to get all drama queen on us... I know, I know... what a huge shock! Rick was already feeling horrible so I told her to quit and just realize that this sadly is part of racing. Rick told her that there were many nights he would get to the race track after working every night for 2 weeks straight and have something break in practice, meaning he couldn't race. Or having something break on the first lap of a race... none of this was comforting her as she continued to whine about her hard luck. So knowing that it was quickly going to get ugly I took her inside and let Rick have the garage all to himself. Once things calmed down a bit he came in and talked to her and they agreed that they would go practice her new kart on Sunday and that this would be better because she could stay at Cheyanne's birthday party the entire time and not have to worry about leaving early to get to the track...funny, this did the trick!
So happy Saturday...no racing for us today but we'll be at the track tomorrow :-)
